How loud are crackers?
Crackers range from near-silent sparklers (about 30 dB, like leaves rustling) up to sound crackers and bombs that approach the legal cap of 125 dB(AI) measured at 4 metres. For comparison, a normal conversation is around 60 dB and a pressure-cooker whistle up close is about 90 dB — so a loud cracker can be many times louder than the sounds you live with every day.
This guide maps our catalogue onto a five-rung noise ladder — silent, low, medium, high and very-high — with an everyday reference for each rung and the cracker types that sit there. Turn on “Show only apartment-friendly” to drop the loudest rung and keep the peace on a balcony or terrace, then start from a ready-made low-noise pack.
The 125 dB(AI)-at-4m limit comes from the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 and CPCB firecracker limits (reviewed July 2026). Manufacturers must keep firecrackers within it, but always celebrate at a safe distance and mind silence zones around hospitals and schools.
