Diwali Crackers in Tanjore

Tanjore does not layer a separate municipal Diwali ban on top of the state and national position. Tanjore city police and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board enforce the same rules applied across the state, so the part that changes year to year is the notification date and exact hours, not a distinct local prohibition.

Whatever the state adds, two nationwide orders come first. Supreme Court, 23 Oct 2018 (WP(C) 728/2015): permitted manufacture/sale of green crackers, banned barium-salt and joined crackers, limited Diwali bursting to a ~2-hour window (commonly 8–10 PM). For anything newer, check the 2026 notification from the Tanjore city police or the Tamil Nadu pollution control board. Every evening, the Brihadeeswarar Temple closes its day with its own light ritual, lamps and camphor carried through the sanctum in a sequence unrelated to firecrackers. It's a useful reminder that Thanjavur already has a centuries-old relationship with fire and light on a fixed schedule; the household Diwali window is a separate, much newer rule that still has to be checked fresh each 2026.
